Ambassador Le Hong Lam had a virtual courtesy meeting with the President of Storting
On 11th June 2020, in Oslo, Ambassador Le Hong Lam had a virtual courtesy meeting with the President of Storting Tone Wilhelmsen Trøen.
At the meeting, Ambassador Le Hong Lam conveyed the greetings of the Chairwoman of the National Assembly and the Prime Minister of Vietnam to the Storting President. The Ambassador notified the President about the recent active developments of friendship and multi-faceted cooperative relations between Viet Nam and Norway as well as between the two Parliaments, in the context the 2 countries moving forward to celebrate the 50th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations. Ambassador Le Hong Lam proposed that the two sides continue to work closely to further strengthen cooperation in trade, investment and sustainable development, with the view to helping businesses of both countries to take the advantage of Vietnam – Europe Free Trade Agreement and to attain the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals; to promote coordination in regional and international forums such as IPU, ASEM... as Viet Nam is the incumbent ASEAN Chair and non-permanent Member of UN Security Council (2020-2021) and Norway is a candidate for non-permanent member of UN Security Council (2021-2022).
The President of Storting Tone Wilhelmsen Trøen noted with satisfaction at the recent positive developments in the bilateral relation; reaffirmed Norway's growing focus on Asia and ASEAN, including Viet Nam; expressed her wish to strengthen the relations between the Norwegian Storting and Viet Nam National Assembly as well as with other ASEAN Parliaments within the framework of the ASEAN Inter-Parliament Assembly (AIPA). The Storting President also confirmed the Norwegian Storting's support in improving friendship and cooperative relations between Viet Nam and Norway, especially in fields of common interests. Ambassador Le Hong Lam and President Tone Wilhelmsen Trøen also discussed and shared experience and outcomes of each country in coping with the Covid-19 pandemic and in recovering the economy./.
