In implementation of the responsibility of citizen protection, on April 26th 2021, the Embassy of Viet Nam in Norway (the Embassy), in collaboration with relevant Vietnamese and Norwegian agencies and a Vietnamese carrier - Bamboo Airways, successfully carried out a special repatriation flight for 64 Vietnamese citizens stranded in Norway because of Covid-19 pandemic. It was the first time that a commercial carrier from Vietnam landed and boarded passengers from Oslo Airport (Gardermoen), which provided great relief to the people who were reluctant to board the flight via transit elsewhere, in view of strict pandemic restriction measures currently applied in almost all European airports. Passengers were mostly seasonal workers who had completed their employment contracts and short-term visitors stranded in Norway, due to the worldwide pandemic travel restrictions.  Throughout the long flight, all appropriate coronavirus prevention measures were strictly implemented to protect the health and safety of the passengers and flight crew. Upon their arrival to Ho Chi Minh city, the passengers were medically checked and quarantined in accordance with the current regulations on covid-19 responses.

In spite of serious time constraint in preparation for the flight, the staff of the Embassy worked closely with Bamboo Airways and the relevant Norwegian authorities to complete the necessary procedures for flight permit and other services at Gardermoen Airport. Ambassador Le Hong Lam and several Embassy officials went to the Gardermoen Airport and coordinated with immigration agencies to guarantee smooth departure for the travelers.

The successful completion of this special flight demonstrates the policy of the Vietnam Government of "leaving no one behind" regarding the protection of Vietnamese citizens, at the time when the covid-19 pandemic situation is still complicated, even worsening in many countries in the world./.
